School board members sworn in after election

The Nevada R-5 School Board voted 6-0 during Wednesday night's meeting, with Steve Cubbage absent, to accept the results of the April 3 school board election and then watched as Melissa Hendrix, school board secretary, swore in Amanda Fisher and Joy Hawks for three-year terms on the board.

And in a related matter the board voted unanimously to elect local businessman Mike McCaffree and Amanda Fisher as the 2013-2014 Board of Education president and R-5 board vice president respectively.

In other business the board:

* Voted unanimously to appoint Melissa Hendrix as secretary and Rhonda Rowland as treasurer.

* Voted 6-0 to elect Nora Quitno as the R-5 Board delegate to the Missouri School Board Association.

* Voted 6-0 to approve an updated organizational flow chart for FY 2014.

* Voted 6-0 to re-adopt the district Policy BBFA, board member conflict of interest and financial disclosure.

* Voted unanimously to renew the district's health insurance policy with Blue Cross Blue Shield, with 12.5 percent increase in the premium for FY 2014. While the district will continue to cover the entire cost of the basic plan for employees, the deductible will increase from $1,000 to $1,500.

* Voted 6-0 to accept the bid of $98,000 from Riggs Recreation to resurface the tennis courts.

* Voted unanimously to accept the bid of $26,772 from Angeltrax for a new camera monitoring system for the districts buses to replace the current system that does not work when the buses are cold and use video tapes for recording.

* Following an executive session, the board accepted the resignation of Austin Gooden, Truman fifth grade. They also approved Emily Vosseler for Truman third grade, Christy Weber for Middle School special education and Blake Howarth as Middle School paraprofessional.
