Nevada baseball canceled

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

The Nevada High School varsity and JV baseball teams were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday, heading back out on the road to take on the Bulldogs of El Dorado Springs High School.

The Tigers were to enter the day hoping to build upon the momentum they got from Monday's 7-3 victory over the Bulldogs of Carl Junction High School. For the seventh time this season, however, Mother Nature had other plans as the rain that narrowly missed Nevada on Monday didn't stay away this time.

Nevada High School athletic director Kevin McKinley announced via email Tuesday morning that Tuesday's game was called off due to the wet conditions brought about by that rain and likely wouldn't be made up. The Tigers already have four other games scheduled this week and could have as many as five next week, on top of another three possible games in the Forsyth Tournament to get in before the district tournament begins on May 11, leaving little to no room to squeeze in make-ups.

Head coach Chase Owen's Tigers freshman squad was scheduled to be in action Tuesday as well. His squad was to host the Indians of Seneca High School at Lyons Stadium, but that game was also called off due to rain.

McKinley said via email Tuesday morning that no makeup date will likely be planned for that contest.

Next on the schedule for the varsity Tigers is Thursday, when they host the Mustangs of McDonald County High School at Lyons Stadium, weather permitting. First pitch in the varsity game is set for 4:30 p.m., with the JV game to follow.

The Tiger freshmen are scheduled to be off until Saturday, when they take back to the road to take on the Eagles of Joplin. First pitch is set for noon, weather permitting.
