Rain plagues NEVC baseball

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Northeast Vernon County's baseball team has played just two of its last four scheduled games.

Sherwood and Montrose were rained out. In the other games, the Knights split, falling to Golden City by a final score of 14-4 and rolling by Hume, 28-2.

Against Golden City, NEVC committed a half dozen errors.

"They are a solid team," said Knights coach Jeremy Barger, noting his team didn't help itself with the miscues.

"You can't win ballgames making that many errors. I tell my boys that one error equals one to two runs every time. I don't care what level you are at, you can't do it.

"Jacob Maus pitched a great game, but with a lackluster defense, we lost in the sixth inning."

With more bad weather already this week, Barger wasn't sure about rescheduling. The Knights were due to play Sheldon Tuesday, but that game was rained out.

The next scheduled game for the Knights is April 29, when they host College Heights Christian.
