Nevada's baseball team built an 8-0 lead over Bolivar Monday afternoon and then held off a late surge by the visitors to take an 11-8 victory on Senior Night.

"We started out hot, the bats were rolling," noted Tigers head coach Danny Penn. "But we lost focus in the middle innings. We had too many wasted at-bats where we tried to do too much with the pitch. Instead of going (the) opposite (way) or trying to just hit the ball hard on the ground or on a line, some of us were swinging for the fences after Cole's home run."

Cole Sanderson was one of several Nevada players who hit safely in the game, as the Tigers rapped out 11 hits. Sanderson's three-run shot in the second inning highlighted his day, which finished with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, two runs scored, three RBIs, a walk and a steal.

Lane Ketterman went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, three RBIs and four stolen bases.

Nevada plated four runs in the first inning, four in the second, one in the fourth, and what would prove to be the decisive runs in the sixth.

Other offensive contributors were Trey Ast with a 2-for-4 day and two RBIs; Easton Mitchell 1-for-4 with two runs, a walk and a steal; Taylor Manes at 1-for-4 with two runs, a walk and a steal; Alex Payne at 1-for-3 with one RBI, a walk and a steal; Grant Wolfe with one RBI; Alex Francis with his first hit of the season and Brett Norton with a single and a steal.

Mitchell earned the win on the mound, going seven innings and giving up eight runs -- six earned -- on 13 hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

"Easton threw well," said Penn. "Only two of their hits were hard-hit balls; several just dropped over our heads in the infield.

"All three of our active seniors got into the game," said the coach, pointing out Francis' first hit of the year.

Nevada was due to head back out on the road to McDonald County Tuesday.
