Nevada baseball falls in regular-season finale, 6-5

WARSAW -- The Nevada Tigers baseball team completed its regular-season schedule Thursday with a 6-5 loss to the Wildcats of Warsaw High School.

Alex Payne, Andrew Heathman, Lucas Denman and Brett Norton led the Tigers offense with two hits apiece and Denman, Norton and Easton Mitchell drove in runs for Nevada. Denman pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Taylor Manes got the last out in the sixth inning and pitched through the seventh, working around two walks.

The Tigers are 16-6 this season and are scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m., Monday, in the semifinals of the Class 4, District 12 Tournament, at Warrensburg, against either Harrisonville or Bolivar.
