James R. Edmonds, 101, Horton, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada. He was born on Jan. 31, 1912, in Vernon County, Mo., to Richard Howard Edmonds and Nellie Mabel Phelps Edmonds. He married Veda Mary Underwood on Jan. 18, 1936, in Butler, Mo., and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2009.

Jim was born in rural Vernon County and attended Horton School. He farmed and raised cattle his whole life on the farm near Horton. Jim was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler, fisherman, and hunter. Jim and Veda enjoyed traveling. He also loved listening on the radio to St. Louis Cardinal baseball.

Survivors include three grandsons, Jim Call and his wife, Dixie, Glendale, Ariz., Randy Call, Horton, and Kenny Call, Wichita, Kan.; six great-grandsons; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his wife, Veda; one daughter, Norma Jean Sloniker; five brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Lawrence Cripps officiating. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton, Mo. The family receives friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
