'Wit' presented at Cottey Nov. 15 and 16

The Cottey College Department of Theatre presents Margaret Edson's "Wit" Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, in the auditorium of the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts. The curtain will rise at 8 each evening.

"Wit," sometimes styled as "W;t," is a one-act play which won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for drama. Edson used her work experience in a hospital as part of the inspiration for her play. The action of the play takes place during the final hours of Dr. Vivian Bearing, a university professor of English, dying of ovarian cancer.

Over the course of the play, Vivian reflects on her life through the intricacies of the English language, especially the use of wit in the metaphysical poetry of John Donne. Throughout the play, she recites Donne's Holy Sonnet X, "Death Be Not Proud," while reflecting upon her condition. The play is under the direction of Dr. Rusalyn Andrews.

Tickets for "Wit" are $5 for adults and $4 for those under the age of 18 or over age 62. Tickets will be available at the door the evenings of the performances.
