Hume girls advance to conference championship

BALLARD, Mo. -- The Hume Lady Hornets junior high basketball team took on Northeast Vernon County in the Golden Valley/Vernon County Conference tournament Thursday night.

The Lady Hornets found themselves in a close contest, right from the start, but used a strong second half in which they outscored the Lady Knights, 19-13, to take the victory by a final score of 33-27. Hume was forced to play from behind in the opening half, taking a 10-8 deficit into the second quarter, but ultimately worked its way back to a tie at halftime.

Karlee Metcalf led the offensive effort for Hume with eight points, followed closely by Malia McFredrick with seven. Makinsey Conner dominated the offense for NEVC, as she finished the contest with 12 points to lead all scorers.

With the win, the Lady Hornets will now move on to the tournament championship game, which is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., Saturday, at Ballard.
