Hume girls take second in conference tournament

BALLARD, Mo. -- The Hume junior high girls' basketball team competed in the championship game of the Golden Valley/Vernon County Conference tournament Saturday, taking on Montrose.

The Lady Hornets were forced to play from behind throughout most of the contest as Montrose held the lead after the first and third quarters. Hume did, however, hold a 16-11 edge at the half before eventually falling by a final score of 31-29, at the final buzzer.

Raygen Spencer, Emmah Filpot and Hannah Swickhamer shared the team lead for the Lady Hornets with seven points apiece, while Deborah Yarick added four, Hannah Gorda had three and Malia McFredrick finished with one. Leah Plunkett led all scorers as she finished the contest with 14 points for Montrose.

Karley Metcalf battles her way to the basket to add two points to the Lady Hornets' score.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets finished second in the tournament.
