Robert Austin McCarter, 80, Nevada, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada. He was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Harry A. McCarter and Almetta (Jaques) McCarter. Bob was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marlene Palmer, on Nov. 23, 1952, at the First Christian Church, in Nevada. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Nov. 23, 2013. Marlene survives of the home.

Bob, as he was known, moved to Nevada at age four where he spent the remainder of his life. He attended Nevada schools and graduated from Nevada High School in 1951. He began work at JC Penney Co., in 1952, and then became owner and operator of Star Cleaners from 1960 until his retirement. Bob was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, Nevada, having joined when he was 9 years old. He was also a member of the Nevada Elks Lodge No. 564. Bob's other hobbies included quail hunting, fishing, bowling, and yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; one son, Robert (Mike) McCarter and his wife, Vickie; one granddaughter, Melody Diane Smith and her husband, Josh; two great-grandchildren, Trenton S. Sanderson and Logan M. Smith; all of Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Mark Douglas McCarter.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 2, at Newton Burial Park, in Nevada, with the Revs. Bill Platt and David Rorabaugh officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to First Christian Church of Nevada in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
