Ann Irene Irwin Wolfe

Ann Irene Irwin Wolfe, Nevada, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Christian Health and Rehabilitation in Nevada. Ann was born July 11, 1922, to Robert L. and Ella F. (Rodgers) Irwin on the family farm southwest of Bronaugh. She graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1940 and attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg. She married Byron Grant "Barney" Wolfe on Sept. 28, 1941, and they were married for 55 years until his death in 1996.

Ann was a star basketball player in high school, once scoring 28 points in a game. She was a long-time member of the Nevada United Methodist Church, where she played piano in the nursery for many years and was active in various Circles and Prayer Groups. She taught school in the one-room Hackberry School for years and retired from the Nevada R-5 School District as a teacher's aide. She was a longtime member of the Nevada DOES organization. She loved her St. Louis Cardinals and missed very few televised games. She was also an avid Nevada Tiger fan and thoroughly enjoyed Mike Harbit calling a game. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney; her parents; four brothers, Roger, Herbert, Donald and Marion Irwin; one sister, Lucille Irwin Stoneman; and a son-in-law, Max Fries.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Fries Woolf and husband, Walter, of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Butch Wolfe and wife, Julie, of Branson, Mo., and B.G. Wolfe and wife, Jennifer, of Nevada. She also leaves five grandsons, Kurt McLaughlin and wife, Tracy, of Birmingham, Ala., Lane McLaughlin of Tampa, Fla., Kris Wolfe and wife, Kirsten, of Los Angeles, Calif., Ross Wolfe and Grant Wolfe, Nevada; two granddaughters, Kari Holwick and husband, Kenny, Overland Park, Kan., and Brynn Wolfe of Nevada. She also leaves six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19. Funeral services will be held at Ferry Funeral Home at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 20, with the Rev. Linda Pagel officiating. Interment will follow at Worsley Cemetery, near Bronaugh.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada R-5 Foundation for a scholarship in her name in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
