Lavonna Schubert

Lavonna Schubert, 83, Lamar, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, Mo. She was born July 13, 1930, in Golden City, Mo., to Walter W. Jenkins and Lola Velege (Cross) Jenkins and they lived in rural Barton County. Lavonna was united in marriage to Ernest Henry Schubert Jr. on Aug. 1, 1949, in Lamar, and he survives of the home.

Lavonna attended and graduated from Lamar High School. She then worked for Lamar School as a secretary for the Vocational Agriculture and Veterans Training Departments. Lavonna taught her children to read at an early age and when they entered school they could already read at the third grade age level. She was a long-time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Lamar, where she was active in women's mission work, especially using her skills as a seamstress and quilter to make needed items for children locally and in Honduras.

Survivors also include three children, Dennis Layne Schubert and his wife, Kathy M., of Columbia, Mo., Shari Lynn Schubert, Columbia, and G.G. Mathis and her husband, David, Duenweg, Mo.; grandchildren, Wade Mathis, Duenweg, James Luke Schubert, Columbia, and John Jacob Schubert, Denver, Colo.; one brother, Richard Jenkins, Branson, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Greenfield Cemetery (near Jerico Springs) with the Rev. Jack Slade officiating. Friends may call Friday afternoon and until noon on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
