Bronaugh basketball swept in tournament

LIBERAL, Mo. --Bronaugh High School's boys' and girls' basketball teams both lost their opening-round games in the annual Tony Dubray Classic, at Liberal High School, Monday night.

The girls dropped a 60-29 decision to Lockwood, while the boys tumbled to Northeast by a final score of 66-30.

The girls were scheduled to get back into action in the tournament on Wednesday, against Golden City, a 60-11 loser to Liberal. The boys also were to play Wednesday, against Thomas Jefferson, a 77-25 loser to Colgan, but results from those games were not available at press time.

In the girls' game, the Lady Wildcats fell behind early, trailing, 22-11, at the end of the contest's first 8 minutes. By halftime, the difference had grown to 42-17, due to a cold shooting effort in the second period by Bronaugh.

The second half was closer, but the Lady Wildcats were unable to make up any ground, trailing, 54-26, after three quarters and getting outscored, 6-3, in the final frame.

Sierra Arens' nine points led Bronaugh. Martell Moore added eight, Courtney Conner five, Katey Rider four, and Heather Baker three.

In the boys' game, the Wildcats trailed, 14-7, at the first break and 30-17 at the half. The difference was 47-29 with 8 minutes left. Northeast poured it on in the final frame, rolling up a 19-1 scoring difference to finish the game.

Thomas Kerbs wound up with seven points, Justin Hudson, Cole Diggins and Chance Wait with four, Gabe McIntire and Jacob Hendrix with three, Bryce Whitworth and Parker Bott with two and Parker Norman with one.
