Richard Franklin Cook

Richard Franklin Cook, 67, Milo, Mo., passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Freeman West Health System, in Joplin, Mo., after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 6, 1947, in Houston, Texas, to James Daniel Cook and Jessie Allene Cox.

Richard grew up in a military family living various places before graduating from Monett High School Class of 1965. He then attended college and attained graduate degrees from University of Missouri, Ohio State, Missouri State University and received a bachelors degree from SMS. He lived in Columbia for many years and various other places teaching school. Richard moved from Clinton to Milo in 2013, making it his home. He attended Community Christian Church in Nevada. Richard enjoyed playing the trombone, singing, and traveling to see gospel quartets.

Survivors include one son, Dan Cook, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Sue Scheurich, Joplin; and one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Cook.

Services are 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at Community Christian Church, in Nevada, with Jonathan Hendrix officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, Mo.
