Treasurer Ann Laudermilk told the Bronaugh Board of Aldermen they needed to consider raising sewer rates at its meeting Monday.

"I will work up some sewer rates," Laudermilk said. "Do you want to concentrate on the minimum, the usage or a combination of both?"

The aldermen advised her to work the rates both ways to be viewed at the next meeting.

Mayor Sherry Brown stressed she leans toward not raising the rates.

"Look at your available money," Laudermilk replied. "What are you going to do when the money runs out? You made $160 in the sewer fund this month, but it takes $275 to pay your depreciation replacement every month. In the summer you're going to be paying mowing."

Laudermilk said she didn't want to raise the rates either.

"I do see the writing on the wall," she said. "You're not going to be able to change this overnight in one month."

Tabling that discussion, the aldermen approved reducing the sewer payment one time for a resident who had a broken pipe, moving Bronaugh to regular flood plane phase to allow people to buy flood insurance, and paying for infrared heaters for the city hall instead of using the furnace.

"City hall's new windows cost $1,603," Brown said. "The windows have a lifetime warranty. We're going to spray them for termites. Volunteers will paint them."

In the treasurer's report, the general fund had a gain of $152.17; the water fund had a gain of $773.50; and the sewer fund had a gain of $153.82.
