Council moves Children's Center closer

The goal of having a new facility for the Children's Center, moved a little closed Tuesday night, when the Nevada City Council voted 5-0 to give preliminary approval to the final plat and development agreement for Curtis Business Park. The development, located north and west of Pathways Community Health, 320 N. Mac Boulevard. The final plat and development agreement are a requirement before any construction can proceed on the new facility.

In other business the council:

* Voted 5-0 to accept a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety to purchase protective equipment for all police officers who may respond to an active shooter situation. The equipment includes body armor, ballistic plates and gear bag. This equipment will significantly increase the protection of police officers responding to incidents involving the threat of or actual use of gunfire.

* Voted 5-0 to accept a $58,036.50 bid from Greens Pro Inc. and a $4,512.10 bid from BWI Companies Inc. for chemicals at Twin Lakes Sports Complex.

* Voted unanimously to accept a $53,357.60 bid from Greens Pro Inc. for chemicals at Twin Lakes Sports Complex.

* Voted 5-0 to accept the low bid of $7,500 from Irrigation and Turf Equipment for a used trim mower to be used at the Frank E. Peters Golf Course. The company also accepted a surplus Massey Ferguson Tractor Model 2315 and Bush Hog mower as trade-in, reducing the cost of the trim mower to $4,950.

* Voted 5-0 to accept the low bid of $30,250 from Crossroads Sales and Service for two new commercial grade ZTR mowers.

* Held a public hearing and voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving the annexation of property owned by C.E. Fancher and Norma Fancher at 1965 N. Osage Boulevard.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance authorizing the city treasurer, city clerk, administrative services director, mayor and mayor pro-tem as designated signers by title on the Tour of Nevada Race Purse checking account at US Bank.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving a contract with C&C Group of Springfield, Mo., for professional services related to the installation of a security system at the new police/courts building.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a general ordinance amending Section 2-6 of the city code by adding "Date" to sub-section (1) of the city code. This is a technical correction recommended by the city attorney.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving a $30,230 lease/purchase agreement with Arvest Equipment Finance for the purchase of two ZTR mowers.

* Voted 5-0 to adopt Resolution No. 1391 authorizing the Nevada Police Department to begin the application process for various traffic safety grants in the next fiscal year.

* Voted 5-0 to adopt Resolution No. 1392 -- the non-discrimination/limited English Proficiency Plan. This is a condition of receiving federal funds to operate the city's taxi coupon program.

* Voted 5-0 to give final approval to a special ordinance leasing a 30-foot gooseneck trailer to Young Iron and Metal for no charge for use in providing metal recycling for Nevada residents.
