Eugene Russell "Rusty" Murry Jr., 56, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., a reporter for the Nevada Daily Mail, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 16, 1957, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Eugene Russell Murry Sr. and Bonnie Sue (Rector) Murry, who both preceded him in death.

He spent his early years in the Pleasant Hill area and after high school served our country as a member of the United States Army. It was after his diagnosis with cancer in his mid-30s that he decided to attend college. He was a graduate of Missouri State with a degree in the journalism field. He lived for many years in the Nevada, Deerfield, and El Dorado Springs areas and was a longtime employee of the Nevada Daily Mail, where he covered a wide range of topics and stories throughout the years.

In what spare time he could find, Rusty hunted and fished and loved spending time writing. He also loved reading books of any kind. He was involved in the Children's Lighthouse Theatre in El Dorado Springs where he served as a Board Member, was a supporter of Vernon County Relay for Life, and recently became actively involved in the new Emergency Preparedness Program for Nevada.

Survivors include his children, Nathan Murry and Erika, of El Dorado Springs, and Maddy Crawford and Ben, also of El Dorado Springs; brother, Carl Murry and Cherene, of El Dorado Springs; sisters, Karen Richardson, of Pleasant Hill, and Brenda Yack, of Kansas City; grandchildren, Landon Murry, Mallori Murry, Emory Crawford, Brogan Crawford, and Keeton Crawford; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A visitation gathering is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at the Ferry Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends and reminisce.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Vernon County Cancer Relief in Rusty's memory.
