William Kenneth Smith, 59, Nevada, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, in Kansas City, Mo., after a brief illness. Kenny was born Dec. 13, 1955, in Nevada, to Henry Kenneth Smith and Hazed Irene Miler Smith. He was united in marriage to Violet R. Pilcher on Dec. 13, 1987, in Nevada, and she survives of the home.

Kenny grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. He then worked for a number of years in the tire business. Later he began working construction and continued to do so until his retirement due to illness. Kenny was an avid fisherman and hunter.

In addition to his wife, Violet, he is survived by two sons, Thomas "Tommy" Smith, Fort Smith, Ark., and Brian "B.J." Smith, Jay, Okla.; two stepsons, George Dockery, Bronaugh, and Troy Dockery, Nevada; one stepdaughter, Michelle Gloodt, Nevada; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Abner Smith, Nevada; three sisters, Marilyn Spence, Bronaugh, Jackque Barrows, Blackwell, Okla., and Debbie Kistner, Lamar, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Eric; four sisters; and three brothers.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., on Thursday, April 3, at Ferry Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.
