Middle school track fares well at Carthage meet

CARTHAGE -- The Nevada Middle School eighth-grade boys' track team finished second Tuesday, in the Carthage Tiger Invitational meet.

Zach Gardner won the triple jump with a height of 37 feet even, placed second in the long jump at 17-10 and ran second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.30 seconds. Ben Satterfield won the high jump with a height of 5-3 and the 400-meter relay team of Gardner, Shelby Trotter, Hunter Mason and Braxton Shadden took first place with a time of 50.20.

Mason was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.60 and Trotter was second in the triple jump at 35-4.

Nevada's eighth-grade girls took sixth in the team standings. The seventh-grade boys' squad finished seventh, while the seventh-grade girls took fifth.

In the eighth-grade girls' competition, Caylee Crews and Sammie Gundy brought home second-place finishes in the long jump and high jump, while the Lady Tigers also took second in the 800 relay. The seventh-grade boys' 400 relay team brought home third.
