Susan Phillips, 63, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at her daughter's home in Joplin. She was born on Feb. 11, 1951, in Scranton, Pa., to John William Hall and Helen Rita (O'Hara) Hall. Early in her life Susan married Larry Richards and together they had a son and daughter. On Oct. 23, 1997, she married James William (Bill) Phillips in Miami, Okla., and he survives of the home.

Susan grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Tunkhannock, Pa., High School. In 1974, the family moved to Iola, Kan., where she began employment with Dollar General in 1984, quickly moving into management. Through her work she was transferred to Dollar General to El Dorado Springs in 1994. After a couple of years she then relocated to Nevada, where she met and married Bill and began working in their office of Phillips Towing and Phillips Auto Sales as bookkeeper and general office manager. In her spare time Susan enjoyed reading and genealogy. But her greatest loves were her children and grandchildren and spending time with Bill.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by four children, Daniel Lawrence Richards (Mandy), Forney, Texas, Dana Michelle Cook (Dylan), Joplin, Mo., Ilene Kaye Lanham (Shan), Nevada, and Eric Randall Phillips (Jeri), Nevada; six siblings, Beth Parent, Ellen Bullock, Cathy Collins, Judy Abrams, Gene Hall and John Hall; and nine grandchildren, Paiton Combs, Landon Richards, Hesston, Colton, McKenna and Mason Whitley, Briannah and Conner Lanham, and Grevyn Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Nancy, Carol, Kenny, Gary, Thomas and William.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Dennis Painter officiating. Interment will follow in the Prescott Cemetery, Prescott, Kan. Friends may call now until the hour of service at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Monday, April 21.
