Law enforcement authorities arrested one woman after a vehicle pursuit Wednesday night, that began in Vernon County and ended in Bourbon County.

Details on what started the chase were unavailable, but Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said Thursday suspicion of drugs in the vehicle was a likely cause.

Bourbon County Sheriff Bill Martin said Thursday the vehicle, a white four-door passenger car, was driven by 29-year-old Sabrina L. Ekis.

Bourbon County Sheriff's deputies responded about 10:20 p.m. to the call, once the chase entered Bourbon County. Martin said the vehicle, which had two occupants, ended up in a ditch near 245th Street and Locust Road.

Martin said Ekis was taken into custody following the crash. He was not sure what initiated the chase.

A male passenger in the vehicle was not taken into custody, according to the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office report on the incident.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, about two ounces of marijuana and methamphetamine were found in the suspect's possession.

Martin said preliminary examination of the drugs found in the vehicle showed "presumptive positive" results for methamphetamine and marijuana, though Martin said he was not sure of the amounts involved. He said the drugs will be sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for testing so the substances can be confirmed.

According to the BCSO arrest report, Ekis was arrested and charged with distribution of certain stimulants, driving while suspended, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, possession of certain stimulants with one prior conviction, possession of paraphernalia to cultivate less than five plants, possession of certain depressants and no vehicle liability insurance.

Ekis is also listed as being arrested on a warrant through another agency. Martin said he believed this warrant was out of Douglas County. Ekis was being held at the Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center on a $1,500 surety bond.

Following the arrest made in Bourbon County, the Vernon County Sheriff's Office made a second, unrelated methamphetamine arrest in Missouri. No information has been released about that suspect or pursued charges.
