Appreciation for a community that combats cancer

Friday, May 2, 2014

Dear Editor:

On Saturday, March 29, Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund partnered with Nevada High School Relay for Life team and held a fundraising event, Dancing With Our Stars and Lasagna Dinner.

The total funds raised exceeded $22,000 (including monies raised for other local charities by the dancers). Net proceeds from ticket sales for the dance and dinner were split equally between VCCR and NHS RFL.

This event was held at the Ella Maxwell Performing Arts Center and was a sellout.

On behalf of VCCR Board of Directors, I would like to thank everyone in the community for supporting this event. Additionally, thank you NHS Relay for Life Team for partnering with us.

Many individuals worked very hard to make this event a success. A very special thank you to all of the volunteers who worked behind the scenes helping to make this fundraiser what it was, including all of the dancers who agreed to compete.

The local talent was amazing, and it was great to see so many different styles and techniques in the dance routines. Everyone did a fantastic job and kept the crowd entertained!

The two organizations (Vernon County Cancer Relief and NHS Relay for Life Team) are complete separate organizations with different focus. While NHS RFL focuses on research and development for cancer cure, VCCR's focus is to assist and meet individual needs to Vernon County residents and their families while undergoing treatments for cancer.

Both organizations play a crucial roll in the battle against cancer.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and supported these worthy causes. We appreciate everyone in this community who plays a part in the fight against cancer.

Mike Turnbull, President
