Vernon County deputies are working to identify owners of stolen items after a county fugitive was captured -- and with thousands of dollars of purloined property in his possession.

Sheriff Jason Mosher said his office had been searching for Nevada resident Joshua Schnedler, 33. According to Missouri court records, warrants were issued for Schnedler's arrest April 16 on charges of domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle. He was then placed on the county's Most Wanted list.

Mosher said Schnedler attempted to evade deputies last week during a vehicle pursuit in a truck allegedly stolen from Kansas. That pursuit was called off by deputies for safety reasons.

Deputies worked with investigators from the Nevada Police Department to locate Schnedler. A home in southern Vernon County was put under surveillance after a truck matching the description of the stolen pursuit vehicle was spotted. With a search warrant, the Sheriff's Office found more than just the stolen truck at the residence.

"Schnedler was found hiding in a barn and was taken into custody at gun point," Mosher said.

During his arrest, Schnedler was found to be in possession of a loaded gun and a substance believed to be crystal meth.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the list of stolen items is hefty. Three stolen vehicles, two trailers, a utility trailer, generator and six loaded firearms -- and a variety of other items -- were recovered. Sheriff's deputies spent most of Thursday informing county residents that stolen property had been found and would soon be returned.

Schnedler was held in the Vernon County Jail on three felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant. Charges include possession of a controlled substance, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a firearm, two counts of tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting/interfering with an arrest, second-degree domestic assault and multiple traffic violations. His cash-only bond totaled $151,000.
