Nevada track fares well at Fort Scott meet

FORT SCOTT -- Pittsburg and Paola won the team titles Thursday, in a junior varsity track and field meet at Fort Scott High School.

The Lady Purple Dragons topped the team standings with 123 points, 17 more than Fort Scott, with the Nevada Lady Tigers fifth at 50. Paola won the boys' title with 136 points, Pittsburg was second at 122, while Nevada finished sixth at 36.

Shelby Theis posted the strongest finish of the day for Nevada's girls, as she took second in the 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault. Chelsey Jeans echoed that success in the 400-meter dash and finished fourth in the 800-meter run.

Savanna Smith was third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the pole vault, while Aly Lunkenheimer was third in the pole vault and Myrissa Dunfield ran fourth in the 1,600-meter run. Theis was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles,.

Nevada Tiger Jeremiah McElroy finished second in the pole vault, while Cameron Diaz was third in both hurdle events and the 200-meter dash, Blake Majors was fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 400, and Cody Hansen was fourth in the 400. The Tigers' 4x100-meter relay team was fourth and the 4x400-meter relay squad was fifth.
