James Carl Deckard, 66, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., passed away at his home on Monday, May 19, 2014. Jim was born Nov. 11, 1947, in Salinas, Calif.

Jim married Geneva (Collins) Deckard on Oct. 1, 1966, in Stigler, Okla. They were married 46 years. To their union four children were born.

On Jan. 21, 1965, Jim enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. His last duty assignment was U.S. Naval Support Activity in Vietnam. Jim was permanently retired by reason of physical disability on April 15, 1968.

Jim had a great love for his family and friends and enjoyed doing things outside with them. He enjoyed drag racing, playing music with his friends, hunting, fishing, four wheeling and working on a tractor.

In August 1996 Jim was born again. Jim loved God and was a member of the Victorious Living Church in the Filley, Mo., area. Jim was ordained by his pastor Bonita S. Berry for the call of God to the gospel ministry on June 11, 2006. He loved his church family.

Preceding Jim in death were his father, Bill Deckard; two grandmothers, Alice Wheeler and Edna Hudelston; a grandfather, Onie Strong; one brother, Randy Deckard; one uncle, Wafe Deckard; one aunt, Maxine Thomas; and one nephew, Benji Deckard.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Deckard, of the home; four children, Greg Deckard and wife, Lori, of Greenforest, Ark., Sherri Rains, of Nevada, Mo., Sandy Boyd and husband, Justin, of Nevada, Mo., and Jimmy "Bodie" Deckard and wife, Whitney, of Freeman, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Austin, Brentton, Torrie, Shelby, Kelsey, Kylie, Elizabeth, Sydnie, and Allie; one great-grandchild, Paisley; his mother, Irene Frost and stepfather, Lenord Frost, of Alton, Mo.; one brother, Jr. Deckard and wife, Sue, of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; three half-sisters, Lori Deckard, Jackie, and Wendy; three nephews, Josh Deckard, Timmy Bybee, and Steve Bybee; and one niece, Jessie.

Funeral services for Jim Deckard were held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bonnie Berry officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Springs Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Terry Simmons, David Taylor, Rick Weaver, Scott Henderson, Jim Boyd, and Josh Deckard. Honorary pallbearers were Steven Bybee, Timmy Bybee, H.B. Calvert, and Riley Boyd.
