The annual Vernon County Relay For Life Walk is scheduled for Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. at the courthouse lawn. This event is the highlight for the Relay for Life teams who work each to year to raise funds to support the American Cancer Society.
"Hopefully the public will join the Relay For Life teams and cancer survivors in this celebration," committee Chair Julie Kemper said.
"With the public attending, both the teams and the survivors can see the community support."
A public auction at the stage will follow the opening ceremonies. Games throughout the night will include a scavenger hunt, cakewalk and team relays around the Square. There will also be various singers, entertainers, speakers, and lots of food.
"Everyone has been touched by cancer," said Kemper. "It could be a friend, a family member or even themselves. The ranks of those diagnosed with cancer increase every day -- but more and more are living and becoming survivors.
"This is what we are fighting for. Those diagnosed with cancer will be honored in a moving luminary ceremony at 9, which honors and remembers those who have faced the battle with cancer.
"Bring your lawn chair, enjoy the evening and just see what this is all about."
