Sheldon girls coast to victory over NEVC

WALKER ---- The Sheldon Lady Panthers picked up a 42-25 road victory against the Northeast Vernon County Knights, Friday night.

Sheldon forward Logan Lamb was a force inside, connecting on 10 field goals, while going 3 for 5 from the free throw line, to finish with a game-high 23 points.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead, but NEVC fought back and trailed 9-7 heading into the second.

Sheldon began the second frame by going on a 5-0 run, capped by junior Kylie Leveall's 3-pointer from the top of the key, giving the Lady Panthers a 14-7 lead with 4:02 to remaining in the half.

With 5:35 to play in the third quarter, Levall connected again from deep, putting the Lady Knights in a 19-10 hole.

On the following Sheldon possession, Leveall stroked her third trey of the game, this time from the right baseline, staking the Lady Panthers to a 22-10 lead.

Later in the third, Lady Knights freshman Maddison Ashby knocked down a short jumper, cutting the lead to 22-12. From there, NEVC reeled off four quick points and trailed 22-16 with 3 minutes to play the third. Sheldon ended the quarter on an 8-3, taking a 30-19 advantage in the fourth quarter,where they pulled away to a comfortable 17-point victory.

Haley Hays finished with 13 points for NEVC, while Ashby added six.
