Hume girls trounce Montrose
Hume split with Montrose Tuesday night, with the girls rolling 59-32 and the boys falling 73-41.
In the girls' game, Hume had the hot hand from the start, rifling in 25 points in the opening period and built a 25-6 first-quarter lead.
The pace slowed down in the second as the teams swapped points but the Hornets still led, 33-14 at halftime.
Hume got rolling again in the third behind 17 points, while holding the visitors to eight, for a 50-22 lead.
The hosts closed out the game by matching points for most of the fourth period.
Megan Sutcliffe put in 18 points and Brhett Mumma 17 to key the winners.
In the boys' game, it was Montrose that opened with a torrid shooting effort, reeling off 24 points while holding the Hornets to 8. It was a 15-7 difference in the second quarter, resulting in Hume trailing 39-15 at halftime.
A 20-13 difference in the third boosted the margin to 59-28 with eight minutes remaining. Hume played the Jays evenly in the fourth scoring wise but couldn't make up any ground.
Dakota Thornburg netted 13 points, Austin Sullins 12, and Chris Ahrens 11 for the Hornets.
