Hollis Eugene "Gene" Igou

Hollis Eugene "Gene" Igou, 82, of Sheldon, Mo., passed from this life Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Saxton, Mo., the son of Harley Hathaway and Lela Roxana (West) Igou. On May 4, 1957, he was united in marriage to Georgia Charlene Gilpin and their union was blessed with seven children.

Gene attended school then entered the United States Army where he received training with the Sixth Armored Division in Fort Leonard Wood. He was recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars; Good Conduct Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; and National Defense Service Medal. He received his Honorable Discharge on Aug. 6, 1960.

Most of the remainder of his working life was spent with the General Motors Leeds Plant, in Kansas City. When he could spare a moment, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved to play Pitch and Bingo. He was a UAW member and belonged to the local VFW.

Survivors in addition to Georgia include his children, Randy Igou and Helen, of Anchor Point, Ala., Terri (Rowlette) Tetlow and C.J., of Pleasant Hill, Warren Igou of Sheldon, Jim Igou of Sheldon, Jason Igou and Tina, of Springdale, Ark., and Tim Igou also of Sheldon; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Mark Rowlette; great-grandson, Charles Crider; and his daughter, Cheryl Joann.

The family has planned a memorial service at noon, Monday, Jan. 12, at Tim's home in Sheldon. All are welcome.
