Celebrating the many special days in February

Saturday, February 7, 2015

Hi neighbors. February has lots of reasons to celebrate. As a month it is designated as: American Heart Month, An Affair to Remember Month, Black History Month, Canned Food Month, Creative Romance Month, Great American Pie Month, National Cherry Month, National Children's Dental Health Month, National Grapefruit Month, and National Weddings Month.

The first Saturday, today, is Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. If you slept in and didn't get any ice cream for breakfast, you can still celebrate today's other special events; Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day or Send a Card to a Friend Day.

The 8th is Boy Scout Day celebrating the birthday of scouting; Kite Flying Day (in February? Really? Someone from Florida or California must have come up with this one.)

The second Monday of February you can do Clean Out Your Computer Day, but not at work, because it is also Toothache Day so you might want to just stay home. If you go to work on the 10th, remember it is Umbrella Day.

Better save your strength for the 11th. Not only do you have to steel yourself to not cry over spilled milk; but to make a friend while wearing a white T-shirt -- or make a friend who is wearing a white T-shirt?

Of course we can all celebrate on the 12th by making a plum pudding for Abe's birthday.

On the 13th we can forget George Washington for a while and celebrate the first Friday the 13th of the year with Blame Someone Else Day. Apparently if you get away with that you can Get a Different Name on the 13th as well. If your life of lies pays off you can join a carney on the 14th, as that is Ferris Wheel Day. If you feel repentant for anything you do on the 14th, you can join in the fun at National Organ Donor Day. But wait till another day on that because your Valentine may want you around for today at least.

The 15th is National Gum Drop Day, and Singles Awareness Day. If you are single, maybe you could get your phone number printed on a few thousand gumdrops?

There's even a day for all you married folks out there. The 16th is Do a Grouch a Favor Day. Treat your loved one like they're a national leader on President's Day also on the 16th.

The 17th is my favorite one, Random Acts of Kindness Day. Give everyone chocolate maybe?

Hey, the 19th is National Chocolate Mint Day! Why isn't this on the 14th?

For George Wash-ington's honor, you can bake a cherry pie on the 20th. The 20th is also Hoodie Hoo Day. I don't know what that is, but I like saying it. Don't forget to love your pet on the 20th as well.

The 21st is Card Reading Day, so play a game of poker?

The 22nd is George's birthday, so serve up whatever is left of that cherry pie. It is also Be Humble Day, Walk the Dog Day and International World Thinking Day.

A lot of attention to the dogs this month as the 23rd is International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day. Does that mean you appreciate the fact you can give a dog biscuit to your dog? Or is that a challenge to buy several different dog biscuits and let your dog tell you, by which ones he gobbles down first, the ones he appreciates?

After you appreciate your dog biscuits, go play tennis because the 23rd of February is Tennis Day. Really? Maybe we should have shoveling snow off the tennis court day on the 22nd?

If you like tortilla chips you'll be delighted to know the 24th is National Tortilla Chip Day.

If you are a weapons inventor, the 25th is Pistol Patent Day.

If you want to go to Florida or California, the 26th is Carnival Day as well as National Pistachio Day.

If you believe all of this, remember the 26th is also Tell a Fairy Tale Day.

More seasonal is Polar Bear Day, which comes on the 27th. Some use this day to go jump in ice covered ponds. I'll stay home and celebrate No Brainer Day on the 27th.

The 28th is Floral Design Day. If you fall asleep in the park (and don't freeze to death) you don't have to fear being arrested or vagrancy as the 28th is Public Sleeping Day. Don't sleep too long though because it is also National Tooth Fair Day so don't let anyone pull your teeth while you're asleep!
