Alice Pearl (Owens) Smith

Alice Pearl Smith, 88, of Nevada, Mo., passed from this life Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center, in Nevada. She was born Sept. 27, 1926, in Hamilton, Kan., the daughter of Bazzle Garfield and Thelma Ada (Freeman) Owens. She was married to Francis Melvin Smith on July 19, 1943, in Haskell, Texas, and together they celebrated 41 years before his passing in January 1984.

Alice lived most of her life in the Nevada area, but did spend time in both Bella Vista and Pea Ridge, Ark. Through the years she was employed in the Nevada High School cafeteria and spent more than nine years working at what was then known then as Nevada Manor as a dietary aide. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and did cleaning for the church as well. Alice enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and canning, and always liked taking family vacations.

Survivors include her children, Nancy June Osborn (John Farrell), of Reston, Va., Margie Jean Zimmerman (Lloyd), of Girard, Kan., and Larry Wayne Smith (Cindy), of Springfield; six grandchildren, Cynthia Connell, of Purcellville, Va., Stephen Palmer, of Reston, Va., Kimberly Zimmerman, of Girard, Kan., Nathan Zimmerman, of Pittsburg, Kan., and Melinda and Katie Smith, of Springfield; five great-grandchildren, Brian and Kevin, Jessie Lou and Destiny Dawn, and Blaine; one sister, Mary Faye Lasco, of Chicago, Ill.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Junior and Marion.

Funeral services for Alice Pearl Smith will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. A visitation is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m., just prior to the service also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at later date in Newton Burial Park, in Nevada.
