Bronaugh considers roads to repair

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

With the temperatures rising and weather improving, the Bronaugh Board of Aldermen discussed what roads in the city need to be worked on in upcoming months at their meeting Tuesday night.

The aldermen agreed that roads such as Maple Street -- where a culvert was recently replaced, leaving the road in need of new asphalt -- and Sycamore, which needs repairs due to several potholes and other damage, are priorities for road projects.

Mayor Sherry Brown said she will continue looking for other roads in Bronaugh that need attention in upcoming weeks.

"There's a lot of rough areas," Brown said. "Uneven surfaces where we have patched that is not going to ever be fixed unless we completely redo the streets."

While determining what areas will need road repairs, the city will begin accepting bids for the job. The bids for cost per square yard of road work will be accepted until April 27, and opened at their monthly meeting May 4.

After accepting bids, the board will consider how much it would cost and what streets they will patch, then decide if there would be enough funds to repair a larger portion of the road that especially needs work.

"Just to try to start salvaging what we have," Brown said.

The treasurer's report signified that each of the city's funds showed an increase in the last month, which had not happened in some time. The board also accepted bids for insurance and mowing.

Because of scheduling conflicts with the upcoming election, the board will hold their next meeting Thursday April 9.
