Gladys Voleta "Val" Everly

Gladys Voleta "Val" Everly, 73, formerly of Sheldon, Mo., passed from this life Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at her home in Lathrop. She was born Aug. 23, 1941, in Salem, Mo., the daughter of Winfred B. and Volante Devear (Davis) Stagner. On Feb. 12, 1958, she was united in marriage to Dewayne Edwin Everly and he survives of the home.

Val attended school in the Salem area of Dent County. After her school years and marriage to Wayne they settled in Eureka, Kan., for a time after his military commitment. In 1964, the family moved to Kansas City where Wayne began employment as a sheet metal worker. In 1971, Val and Wayne decided to move out of the city to a smaller community to raise their children. They made their home in Sheldon. Wayne continued to commute to the city for work while Val managed the Wildwood Inn in Sheldon during the mid-1970s. She also was owner/operator of Wee Taco House, in Nevada, in the mid-1980s.

Throughout the years they spent five years in Texas, and also lived for a time in Fall River, Kan., where she worked in the Eureka Hospital laundry, as well as a short while building furniture in Fredonia, Kan. During what free time she could find she enjoyed flowers, but her most precious time was spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Wayne, include her children, Wayne E. Everly Jr. and wife, Dora, of Fall River, Kan., Linda Santee and husband, Garry, of Green City, Jack Everly and wife, Betty, of Lathrop, and Volantie Bogart and husband, Robert, of Belton; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Winfred Stagner, of Rolla; sister, Linda Hoyt, of Kansas City, Kan.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Val was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leroy and Oland; and two sisters, Nevada and Ada Jean.

Funeral services for Val Everly are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, April 17, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Jarod Lamb officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Cemetery, in Sheldon. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 16, at Ferry Funeral Home.
