Nevada Police concluded an investigation of a felony theft case from a local business located in the 2200 block of East Lincoln Avenue.

Police received a report during the early morning hours of April 15 that suspicious activity was occurring on the property. Police responded and spoke to the management of the business. Officers were advised that multiple subjects were filling up carts full of merchandise inside the store, then going back to their vehicle and moving it to the side of the building.

Store management gave officers a description of the suspect vehicle, and it was determined the vehicle had left the scene. Shortly thereafter, a Vernon County Sheriff's deputy located the suspect vehicle, sitting stationary down the road from the business in total darkness. The vehicle and driver were detained until Nevada Police arrived.

Patrol officers made contact with the suspect, and it was determined the driver was an unlicensed juvenile. It was discovered that the juvenile was waiting for the two other suspects still inside the business.

Nevada Police officers made contact with the two subjects inside the store. The suspects had removed approximately $5,000 worth of merchandise and were attempting to depart the store with multiple shopping carts.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects had planned to steal the merchandise without paying by going out a side door of the business. It was also discovered through further investigation that the juvenile found in the truck was waiting for a phone call to pick up the other two suspects with their stolen merchandise.

Two of the suspects were identified as juveniles. The Vernon County Juvenile Office was contacted in reference to the investigation.

The third male, an adult subject, was identified as 27-year-old Cody R. Walker, of Sarcoxie, Mo. He is currently being held in the Vernon County Jail on warrants issued by the Vernon County Associate Circuit Court.

Those charges include endangering the welfare of a child (two counts), and felony stealing. Walker's bond has been set at $3,500 cash or surety.
