Robert E. Houdeshell
Robert E. Houdeshell, 87, Nevada, Mo., departed this life on Sept. 10, 2015, at Medicalodges of Nevada, following a lengthy illness. Bob was born March 14, 1928, in Arcadia, Kan., to Ralph Paul and Gladys Francis (Henning) Houdeshell. He was united in marriage to Mary Sue Doll on Nov. 7, 1949, in Nevada, and she preceded him in death in 2010.
Bob came with his family to Vernon County near Sheldon at a young age. He attended the Wild Rose one-room school house in rural Sheldon. During the Korean Conflict, Bob served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany.
From 1951 to 1991 he worked for Joseph L. Pohl Construction. Bob also farmed and raised cattle nearly all his life. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and growing watermelons.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Sheila Key and her husband, Buzz, Liberty, Mo.; son, David Houdeshell, Cameron, Mo.; four grandchildren, Alex Key, Adam Key, Cristin Hill, and Ashley Houdeshell; nine great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Daniel Ralph Houdeshell (Jr.) and his wife, Betty, Nevada, Lila Bogart, Nevada, Anna Maude Bogart, Sheldon, Mae Lamb, Nevada, Ruby Wright and her husband, Charles, Sheldon, Pauline Stansill, Sheldon, Patricia Schwartz, Nevada, Ellen Brooks and her husband, Mike, Milo, Dinah Smith and her husband, Charlie, Nevada, Sarah Underwood and her husband, Ralph, Nevada, Jim Houdeshell, Nevada, Wanda Watts and her husband, Richard, Nevada, and Raymond Houdeshell, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Lee; two sisters, Lenora McElwee and Viola Chancellor.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Mo. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
