The Nevada Tigers suffered a tough 8-6 defeat against the Seneca Indians, Monday evening at Logan Field.
The combined junior varsity and freshman game was a defensive battle throughout. The Tigers defense was strong until allowing a touchdown and two-point conversion with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
Nevada jumped on top 6-0 courtesy of a Daulton Shephard 58-yard pick-six midway through the first quarter. Nevada however, came up empty on the two-point attempt.
Later in the first quarter, it was freshman Coletan Shephard who jumped a route and intercepted a pass thrown by Seneca quarterback Gavin Clouse, returning the interception 22-yards to the Seneca 38.
Nevada was unable to capitalize on the miscue, as they were later stopped on fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line.
With just over a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, Seneca's offense began to click, as Clouse completed a pass across the middle to Miguel Bonilla, who broke a tackle for a big gain.
With 48 seconds left in regulation, Clouse took a quarterback keeper seven yards around the right-side and into the end zone.
Clouse wasn't finished, as he rolled out of the pocket and connected with tight end Harris Griffith in the right corner of the end zone on the two-point play ---- giving Seneca it's first lead of the game, 8-6.
A Conor Price interception on Nevada's ensuing drive, closed the door on the Tigers hopes.
Defensive backs Daulton and Coletan Shephard had a field day against Seneca, combing for thr
ee interceptions (Coletan with two and Daulton, one).
