Eileen Leona Powell

Eileen Leona Powell, 97, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., formerly of Schell City, passed from this life Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center. She was born June 4, 1918, in Melrose, Mo., the daughter of Alfred Gustav and Sophie Amilie (Bartold) Kreienkamp. On July 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to Eldon Gibbs Powell in St. Louis County, Mo. Their union was blessed with three children. Eldon preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 2008.

Eileen was a longtime educator in the public school system and spent many years teaching Home Economics and English in the Schell City R-1 School. She also taught and substituted in several rural Missouri schools for a number of years She herself was educated at the University of Missouri -- Columbia as well as Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. Through the years Eileen was a member of several professional and community service organizations among them being the American Association of University Women and Order of the Easter Star. She was Worthy Matron of the Schell City Organization on four different occasions. During retirement she continued volunteer work whenever possible.

Survivors include her son, Stanley Powell; daughters, Betty Rowland and her husband, Gary, and Jane Powell Dolan; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one sister, Annette Horn; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Private services for Eileen will be held at a later date when she will be interred by her husband in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery south of Springfield, Mo. Arrangements for Mrs. Powell were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City, Mo.
