Bronaugh hammers Humansville on Senior Night

Hosting visiting Humansville on Senior Night, the Bronaugh Lady Wildcats rolled to a 66-35 victory. The Bronaugh boys were also victorious, winning 54-42. With the non-conference win, the Lady Wildcats improve to 6-3 overall.

In the girls game, Bronaughs Katey Rider opened the scoring 10 second into the game. Lady Wildcats senior Amanda Raper followed with back-to-back buckets to hand Bronaugh a 6-0 lead. Later in the first the Lady Wildcats went on 11-0 run to open up a 17-4 lead. During the spurt, Many Murphy, Riley Knapp, and Raper contributed points.

Humansville came back strong in the second quarter as Jacklyn Spicher drilled a 3-pointer, followed by consecutive Lilly White buckets, trimming the Lady Wildcats lead to 21-16with 3:45 remaining in the first half. Later in the second, Humansville continued to draw closer as Spicher knocked down a trey to shave Bronaugh's lead to three.

The Lady Wildcats began to pull away grabbed a 27-20 halftime lead courtesy of buzzer-beating 3-pointer from sophomore Abby Robertson.

Second half

Following the break Raper dropped in the first points of the half as Braonugh took a nine point lead. Later in the third the Lady Wildcats ripped off six quick points to take a commanding double-digit lead. Braonugh finished the third quarter with momentum as junior sharp-shooter Heather Baker connected from long-range. Braonugh led 46-27 entering the final frame.

Midway through the fourth quarter Baker dropped in another 3-pointer. Late in the fourth quarter junior point guard Taylor Stratford went down hard, but was uninjured. Humansville was whistled for a technical foul on the play. After Stratford's trip to the charity stripe, Bronaugh led 50-29. Late in the fourth, Baker drained another trey, putting the finishing touches on the blow-out victory.

For the Lady Wildcats, Raper finished with a game-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds, while Baker tallied 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point land. Rider added 10 points and six rebounds, Stratford and Kailey Harrell chipped in with six points apiece.

Boys game

Wildcats senior Justin Hudson opened the boys contest in spectacular fashion with a 3-pointer just seconds into the first quarter. Hayden Fogler scored Humansville's first points of the night 60 seconds into the game.

Bronaugh junior Tyler Strunk and Hudson followed with baskets to give Bronaugh a 7-2 lead. Another bucket from Fogler cut the Wildcats lead to 7-4 with 4:01 to play in the first quarter.

A long offensive drought ensued for both teams, as neither squad scored for the remainder of the first quarter.

The drought finally ended nearly three minutes into the second quarter when Fogler and Dustin Shoemaker dropped in back-to-back buckets to hand Humansville an 8-7 advantage.

After a failed opportunity take back the lead at the charity stripe, senior point guard Gabe McIntire connected from long-range, followed by a Hudson trey with 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Strunk logged the final point of the half at the free throw line with 2.2 seconds showing on the clock, as the Wildcats took a 14-10 lead into the locker room.

Scoring picked up in the second half as Bronaugh's Joe Mader connected early from beyond the arc, giving the Wildcats a 17-10 edge. From there Bronaugh reeled off a 15-5 run to go on top 32-15.

Humansville's Dalton Wendleton stopped the bleeding to by dropping in a 3-pointer with one minute left in the third quarter. Wendleton then followed a Hudson's basket with another trey as Humansville cut the Wildcats lead to 34-21.

The teams traded a pair of points early in the fourth quarter before the Wildcats ran off six consecutive points. Play was briefly stopped when a water cooler was knocked over on to the court with 4:40 to go in the game. Following a free throw for each team, the cheering sections took advantage of a timeout as they attempted to out due each other.

Humansville further sliced into the lead with back-to-back three's form Wendleton and Logan Underwood. In turn, Bronaugh ran off another five points, followed by another Underwood 3-pointer.

Bronaugh was able to pull away increasing its lead 50-36 thanks to excellent free throw shooting. Hudson led Bronaugh in scoring with 22 points, followed by Strunk with 13. McIntire logged 11, and Mader and Cole Diggins had three each.
