Tigers top Webb City for third win of season

The Nevada Tigers seventh-grade basketball team triumphed 44-36 over visiting Webb City, Monday night, improving to 3-0 on the young season. The Tigers stormed out of the gate, going on top 14-4 after one quarter of play. Nevada led 24-14 at halftime, as Logan McNeley and Lane McNeley paced the Tigers with eight points apiece. Nevada point guard Logan Applegate dropped in seven third quarter points, including a 3-pointer as the Tigers led 35-26 after three quarters of play. Nevada was outscored 10-9 int he fourth quarter but was never threatened, cruising to the eight point victory. For the Tigers, Lane McNeley finished with a game-high 14 points, while going 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Applegate added 11 points, Ben Hines, nine; Logan McNeley, eight; and Wesley Balk, two. The Tigers seventh-grade B-team fell 34-16, as Blake Pryor led the way with a team-high nine points. The Tigers opened their season Saturday at the Frontenac (Kan) Invitational. The Tigers opened play with a 36-30 defeat of the Pittsburg Purple Dragons. Applegate scored a team-high 11 points, while Hines chipped in with 10. Nevada followed up with a resounding 44-22 victory over host Frontenac. Lane McNeley dropped in 10 points while Applegate finished with nine. Nevada hosts Fort Scott Middle School, today at the Franklin P. Norman Community Center, with tip slated for 5:30 p.m. Check Wednesday's edition of the Daily Mail for full coverage.
