Lawrence D. Cole, 89, Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at Nevada Nursing and Rehab, in Nevada. Lawrence was born on Feb. 24, 1926, in Horton, Mo., to Earl D. and Edyth (Perry) Cole.

Lawrence attended Rich Hill High School and graduated with the Class of 1944. Following high school he served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return home Lawrence married his high school sweetheart, Anna Maye. He worked for a time at Wyson Auto Body Repair before moving to California where he began working at Thomas International (Boeing) where he was employed as a Fire Lieutenant for their nuclear field from 1957 until 1981. At that time he returned to Missouri and lived for a time in Sheldon while working at O'Sullivan Industries and later the United States Postal Service before moving to Nevada where he lived for an additional nine years.

Lawrence enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica. He played with The Hayloft Gang, a Christian band in Nevada. They could be watched at the Radio Studio on the South side of the square. He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, bowling, baseball, and softball. He was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church in Nevada.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Nylin, Quilcene, Wash.; one grandson, David Marez, Fort Scott, Kan.; two granddaughters, Debra Samuels, Carthage, Mo., and Jeanna Spradlin, Quilcene, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Alex Samuels, Geddy Samuels, Christine Terry, Jakob Terry, and Garon Terry; and one sister, Norma Edmonds, Maryville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna; and one brother, Joe Allen Cole.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Dennis Englebrecht officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton, Mo. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
