Tiger freshman teams fall to Harrisonville

The Nevada Tigers boys and girls freshman basketball teams were defeated at home Thursday night by Harrisonville.

The Nevada boys lost 35-33 while the Lady Tigers were defeated 30-25. The boys team is 5-6 overall while the Lady Tigers are 3-7 overall.

Boys game

The Tigers lost in heartbreaking fashion, as Trent Pryor's 3-pointer at the buzzer was halfway down before rimming out. Pryor was open on the right wing due to multiple screens set for him. Prior to the miss, Pryor was 2-for-3 from long-range in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers stormed out of the gate, opening the game on an 11-2 run, capped by Kayden Ast's basket and free throw with 2:01 remaining in the first quarter.

A full timeout helped Harrisonville regroup, as point guard Micah Dillingham and forward Isaiah Patrick sparked an 11-0 run that extended into the second quarter.

Nevada quickly regained the lead at 14-13 via a Will Johnson trey from the top of the key. Harrisonville however, ended the half on an 8-0 blitz.

The Tigers tightened up on defense in the third quarter, outscoring Harrisonville 10-3 to tie the game at 24 apiece entering the fourth quarter.

Patrick opened the final frame with a driving basket and trip to the free throw line, putting Harrisonville on top 27-24. Guard Jayden Ast responded with a three from the left wing to even the game at 27. A Pryor three with 3:05 remaining in regulation put the Tigers in front 30-27. The game seesawed back-and-forth until Pryor's game-winning attempt at the buzzer rimmed out.

For Nevada, Kayden Ast finished with a team-high 11 points followed by Pryor with nine. Bronson Smith was strong at the point guard position, finishing with seven points and five steals. The duo of Dillingham and Patrick combined for all 35 of Harrisonville's points. The Tigers were in action Tuesday night, defeating Bolivar at home 53-41. Kayden Ast finished with a game-high 15.

Lady Tigers

After trailing 6-4 in the first quarter, Harrisonville went on a big second quarter run, outscoring the Lady Tigers 17-1 grab a 23-5 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Lady Tigers clawed back holding Harrisonville to just two third quarter points. Nevada trailed 25-11 entering the fourth quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, Reanna McGraw buried a 3-pointer to cut Harrisonville's lead to 25-14. The inside-out duo of Hailey Jackson and Laiken Cussimanio helped Nevada climb to within five points at 27-22 with 1:58 remaining, but that was as close as they would get. For Nevada, Jackson finished with 12 followed by Cussimanio with five.

Lady Tigers JV

The Nevada Lady Tigers junior varsity basketball team fell on the road Monday to Neosho 42-26. Nevada was led by Kat Ream with eight points.
