Council to vote on license for new taxi company

The Nevada City Council will be considering a resolution approving the streets to be paved for this summer's street construction program during tonight's council meeting. Each the summer the city spends $500,000 from the city's one-half cent transportation sales tax to rebuild city streets. The remainder of the approximately $700,000 brought in the by the sales tax is used for additional work like slurry sealing city streets.

The council will also be considering a resolution approving a license for a new taxi company in town operated by Doug Salkil and Wilbur Smith.

Other items on the agenda include consideration of bids for chemicals to be used for day-to-day operations of the golf course and ball fields at the Twin Lakes Sports Complex and on two ½ ton, 4-wheel drive pickup trucks with a tow package for the parks department. One will be used at Twin Lakes and the other in parks maintenance.

The council will also be considering the second reading of an ordinance accepting the award of the Stop Violence Against Women Act grant to cover 75 percent of the cost of a full-time Nevada Police Detective for two years, with the city paying the remaining 25 percent.
