Beloved wife of nearly 70 years to Homer Wesley Haggans died March 4, 2016, at the Barone Alzheimer Center, Nevada. She was born in El Dorado Springs on Nov. 28, 1924, to Stella and John Atkinson.

Pat graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1942 and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri and earned a master's degree in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State University. She taught for more than 30 years in Nevada schools, passing on her love of learning and spark of life to hundreds of students.

Her sister, Mary Lou Joustra, and brother, John Monroe Atkinson, preceded her in death. Pat is survived by her husband; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Katie) Haggans, John (Mary) Haggans, Charles (Carol) Haggans; six grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) Swearingen, Matthew (Valerie) Haggans, Emily Haggans, Kiri Haggans, Vanessa Haggans and Sam Haggans; and four great-grandchildren. She was Aunt Pat to her many nieces, nephews and cousins who, for years, joined in a huge family Thanksgiving dinner.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma (teachers society), Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Lares Club and Missouri Retired Teachers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, at the United Methodist Church, in Nevada, with the Rev. Sharon Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada.
