Nevada places second at season-opening Fort Scott tennis tournament

The Nevada Tigers tennis team opened its season with a second-place finish at a tournament hosted by Fort Scott (Kan.) High School.

Singles-play

In No. 1 singles for Nevada, Jordan Sheehy took second-place, defeating Ivan Walter of Pittsburg 8-3, and then blanking Ben Conn of Coffeyville 8-0. Sheehy later fell to Fort Scott's Alex Combs 8-4.

In No. 2 singles. Nevada junior Matt Sommer placed first, beating Fort Scott's Jakob Bailey 8-3, and then bouncing Jamean Delp of PIttsburg 8-1. Sommer capped his big day with an 8-3 victory over Coffeyville's Minkeun Song.

Doubles-play

In No. 1 doubles for Nevada, Nathan McCall and Jace Lanham took third, defeating James Richey and Noah Kangas of Pittsburg 8-3, later losing to Mitchell Reitz and Zach Holman of Coffeyville 8-0, and Alex Gorman and Micah Self of Fort Scott, 8-6.

In No. 2 doubles for Nevada, Sheel Patel and Vasantgiri Goswami took third, besting Coffeyville's Josh Wilson and Keaton Allen 8-1, but later losing to Fort Scott's Elijah Wright and Joe Adams, 8-4. The duo also fell in an 8-7, 8-6 tiebreaker to Pittsburg's Pat Sullivan and Jack Warring.
