The Cottey Comets were defeated Saturday afternoon in both games of a home doubleheader, falling to the St. Charles Community College Lady Cougars 14-1 and 19-0. In the first game, Comets freshman Madison Hedges (pictured above), held the Lady Cougars scoreless through three innings. St. Charles however, was able to plate seven runners in the top fourth en route to the victory. The Comets lone run of the contest came courtesy off a Jessica Manderino blast over the left-center field fence in the top of the sixth inning. On Monday, the Comets traveled to North Arkansas Community College, where they were defeated 18-6 in the first game of a twinbill. The Comets regrouped, as they defeated North Arkansas 10-5 in the second game, earning their first victory of the season, as they improve to 1-16 overall. For Cottey, freshman DeLaina Finley was 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Freshman pitcher Mary Atherton picked up the victory, while also coming through at the plate with two singles and an RBI.
