Nevada places second at conference golf tournament

The Nevada Tigers golf team slotted into a second-place finish at Thursday's West Central Conference golf tournament at Meadow Lake Country Club in Clinton.

The Tigers shot a combined team score of 319, bested only by Warrensburg, who placed first with a 307.

"I was pleased with our scores," Nevada golf coach Brian Leonard said, "but we can still take a few strokes off here and there heading into districts."

Led by junior John Quitno, four Nevada golfers earned WCC All-Conference honors by finishing in the top 12 individually. Warrensburg senior Bailey Woods won the tournament by six strokes, shooting a 1-under-par 70. At Meadow Lake, the front-nine was a par-35 while the back-nine was a par-36.

* John Quitno, second-place, 5-over-par-76 (38 front-nine, 38 back-nine).

* Patrick Ferry, T-5th-place, 8-over-par 79, (42 front-nine, 37 back-nine).

*Jacob Hammontree, T-10th-place, 11-over-par 82 (42 front-nine, 40 back-nine).

* Patrick Ferry, T-10th-place, 11-over-par 82 (41 front-nine, 41 back-nine).

* Bronson Smith, T-22nd-place with a score of 93 (49 front-nine, 44 back-nine).

* Matt Barrett, 38th-place with a score of 126 (61 front-nine, 65 back-nine).

The Class 3 District 7 golf tournament at the Mules National Golf Course in Warrensburg, May 2. Tee times are slated for 9 a.m,.

The top teams from the district tournament will advance to the sectional tournament.

In addition to the top two teams qualifying, the top 15 individual scores will also qualify for the sectional tournament.
