Al Melton

Al Melton, 77, of Webb City, Mo., passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016, in Oklahoma. He was born on Dec. 13, 1938, in Nevada, Mo., to Don Melton and Margaret (Widman) Melton.

After graduation from Walker High School he joined the United States Navy in 1956 and took boot in San Diego, Calif. From there he went on to class A school in Chicago, and from there on to Norfolk, Va., to serve on the ship U.S.S. Chuckawan.

Al was then received his honorable discharge in Norfolk, Va., in November of 1959. He then returned to Missouri where he did many jobs before retiring from Williams Natural Gas where he was a pipeliner. He married Norma (Copeland, Hawkins) Melton on Aug. 27, 1989, and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2005.

Al was also preceded by a son, Steven Melton; and a stepdaughter, Nancy Eden. He is survived by his daughters, Ricky and Donna; stepchildren, Jim Hawkins and wife, Susan, Janet Cook and husband, Ron, and Rosemary Combs and husband, Ron; brother, Jim Melton and wife, Suzanne; a son-in-law, Jim Eden; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, April 28, at 11 a.m., at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors and the Rev. Bob Easton officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Peterson Outdoor Ministry in his memory. Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
