Lady Tigers place second at conference tennis tourney

After winning 11 of 12 regular season matches, the Nevada Lady Tigers opened postseason play Friday in Warrensburg at the West Central Conference tennis tournament, where they collected a second-place finish. Host Warrensburg won the tournament.

In doubles play, Nevada's top duo Emma Cheaney and Erika Watanabe placed third; Nevada's No. 2 doubles team Jaiden Cherry and Sydnie Baker collected first place; and the Lady Tigers No. 3 doubles team Courtney Smith and Mikena Padgett took third.

In singles play, Nevada's No. 1 Cheaney placed fourth; NHS No. 2 Watanabe captured first; No. 3 Cherry also netted a first-place medal; No. 4 Baker placed second; No. 5 Smith fell in the quarterfinals; while No. 6 Padgett placed fourth.

The top-seeded Lady Tigers return to the court Tuesday in Nevada for the Class 1 District 12 tennis tournament. NHS awaits the winner of Monday's Clinton vs. Harrisonville match.
