Virginia N. Dark

Virginia N. Dark, 95, formerly of Nevada, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2016 at Truman Gardens in Independence, Mo. Virginia was born March 29, 1921 in Joplin, Mo. to Arthur and Rhoda (Peterson) Gatewood. On Dec. 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to Joe H. Dark and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Virginia grew up near Montevallo, Mo. She lived most of her life in Nevada working as a psychiatric aid at Nevada State Hospital for nearly 20 years. Virginia enjoyed shopping, and loved being with her family -- especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include two children, William R. Dark, Kansas City, Mo., and Lillie Mae Plain, Virgil City, Mo.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Gatewood; one sister, June Cassidy; several nieces, and nephews. In addition to her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Private family interment will follow in Montevallo Cemetery in Montevallo, Mo..
