The fifth annual Catwalk for a Cure will open its doors Friday night at 5:30 in the Ella Maxwell Center for the Performing Arts at Nevada High School. The charity fashion show, which is a service project to benefit Relay for Life and Vernon County Cancer Relief, will feature 12 Nevada High School models and nine mini-models, with fashions from local clothing stores.

The night's activities will begin with 13 area boutiques offering gifts and other items in the lobby prior to the fashion show and entertainment, which begins at 7 p.m. A percentage of the vendor's sales will go toward the two causes.

In addition to the fashion show and the boutiques, there will be entertainment, including a special guest performance by Whitney Dahlstrom, a participant in many musical competitions including the "The Voice," and "American Idol."

The boutiques will offer a variety of items.

"Make up, baked goods, T-shirts, jewelry, essential oils are some of the items that will be available," Margaret Cavener said.

There will also be drawings for products donated by the vendors.

This year's event is coordinated by NHS seniors Elena Rodriguez and Margaret Cavener and Mallorie Owen, all of whom have modeled in the fashion show in previous years.

"This is our first year to coordinate the show," Elena Rodriguez, said.

Catwalk for A Cure was created by Carly Greer when she was a student at Nevada High School. Since her graduation, the tradition has been carried on by different students each year.
